R.Jampol Project(s) will present an exhibition of old and new work by artist Tehniyet Masood. The exhibition “Bluebirds” will be on view from Wednesday, September 23, 2015 – Sunday, October 11, 2015. A reception for the artist will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 6 – 9pm.

Within the exhibition, “Bluebirds” Masood creates a body of work that conjures a childhood home filled with memories – objects from another time and place. A narrative forms around the family that lived there once. History, formed by objects and places – informs the new work. As the years passed so did the people, the traces from the past establish a transference of memory that guides the way to re-create something that is lost.

Much like the search of the bluebird, Masood reminds us that the process of remembering is endless.

The visual themes of Masood’s work incessantly repeat in an effort to relocate memories from her past, while simultaneously discovering the pictorial possibilities inspired by the present. There is a sense of repeating themes, journal-like entries that record moments. Memories are translated through varied mixed media works that explore two and three dimensional forms.

Tehniyet Masood was born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1979 and moved to the United States in 1998. In 2006 she received her Post Baccalaureate in Painting at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, prior to which she studied painting and sculpture at Bennington College where she received her Bachelors. Masood is known for her public art installation in 2010 for NYC based organization, Project for Empty Space. She recently exhibited at The Gateway Project in Newark, New Jersey within the gallery, as well as in the public in conjunction with their community programming. She has been reviewed and celebrated by many publications including the Wall Street Journal. This is her first solo exhibition in New York.
